NIE welcomes Prof Ho Li-Ching as a visiting professor

NIE warmly welcomes Professor Ho Li-Ching as Visiting Professor with the Humanities and Social Studies Education Academic Group from July to December 2022. During her sojourn with NIE, Prof. Ho will be working with the secondary social studies instructors, teaching a graduate course Citizenship Education in a Global Age, contributing to the Ethics and Values Strategic Growth Area in NIE, and supporting curriculum development in the Ministry of Education.

Professor Ho is Professor of Curriculum & Instruction and Faculty Director of Global Engagement of the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She holds a Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D. Social Studies Education) from Teachers College, Columbia University and has a Master of Arts (Major Southeast Asian Studies) from National University of Singapore. She started her career in education as a Geography and Social Studies Teacher at Nanyang Girls’ High School, and was also formerly an Assistant Professor and Assistant Head (Research) at HSSE.

Professor Ho’s research in Global Civic Education, Environmental Education, and Multicultural Education has led to numerous publications to date, including her co-edited volume, The Palgrave Handbook of Global Citizenship and Education (2018) and more recently, her co-authored book (with Keith Barton) Curriculum for Justice and Harmony: Deliberation, Knowledge, and Action in Social and Civic Education (2022) that was published by Routledge. She has also published review chapters in several research handbooks and encyclopaedias of education, as well as research articles in journals such as Teachers College Record, Cambridge Journal of Education, Theory and Research in Social Education, and Journal of Curriculum Studies.

Professor Ho has also won multiple awards throughout her career, including the Excellence in Scholarship and Research Award from the International Assembly of the National Council for Social Studies (2021), the Vilas Faculty Early Career Investigator Award from University of Wisconsin-Madison (2016), and the Early Career Research Award from the College and University Faculty Assembly, National Council of Social Studies (2013).
