BH featured the language literacy researcher, Associate Professor Dr Mukhlis Abu Bakar, who noted that the Malay language is their heritage. If the habit and atmosphere for the use of the language are not inculcated now, there is a risk that the next generation would forgo the language when they reach adulthood. He shared that the Malay language should not only be regarded as a subject in school but as an impetus to various learning opportunities for children. Therefore, the community needed to strengthen the teaching methods in and outside classrooms. The community and families also play a part to cultivate the use of Malay language among children, said Dr Mukhlis who was also the Assistant Head (Malay Language Department) of Asian Language Culture (ALC) Academic Group (AG) of NTU, NIE.
