OER-AST Research Webinar: Nurturing Future-Ready and Lifelong Learners
On 23 March 2023, the sixth OER-AST Webinar was jointly organised by the Academy of Singapore Teachers and the Office of Education Research (OER). Themed “Nurturing Future-Ready and Lifelong Learners”, the webinar sought to provide research-based insights and pedagogical strategies that educators can adopt to empower learners to be future-ready and nurture them to be lifelong learners.
The presentations, in order of appearance were:
- Associate Professor David Ng, Associate Dean of Academic Quality at the Office of Academic & Strategic Development, Associate Professor at the Policy, Curriculum and Leadership Academic Group (PCL AG) with his keynote titled, “Future-ready Learners: Learning, Lifework, Living, and Habits of Practices”;
- Assistant Professor Marcus Tan from the Visual & Performing Arts Academic Group (VPA AG) with his keynote titled, “"In The Shoes of Another": An Exploratory Study of Immersive Technology for Social and Emotional Learning”;
- Dr Melvin Chan, Assistant Dean of Knowledge Management and Education Research Scientist at the Office of Education Research with his keynote titled, “Future-Ready Skills for School, Work, and Life: Where Are We At and Where To Next?”; and
- Mr Melvin Chng, Lead Specialist at the 21st Century Competencies Office, Ministry of Education with his keynote titled, “A Continuous Journey to Prepare our Students Well for the Future”.
The webinar concluded with a question and answer segment, moderated by Dr Trivina Kang, Associate Dean of Professional & Leadership Development at the Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning and Senior Lecturer for Policy, Curriculum and Leadership Academic Group (PCL AG), and was attended by close to 230 participants which comprised school educators, specialists and leaders from various primary and secondary schools, as well as MOE HQ.
