Dr Pan Qianqian and Assistant Professor Cheung Hoi Shan co-publish a journal article

Dr Pan Qianqian, Education Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP), has co-authored a journal article with Assistant Professor Cheung Hoi Shan from the Psychology and Child & Human Development Academic Department (PCHD), alongside collaborators from Hong Kong, China, and Norway. The article, titled “Conceptualization, measurement, predictors, outcomes, and interventions in digital parenting research: A comprehensive umbrella review,” has been published in the journal of Educational Research Review.

This study explores the critical role of digital parenting in an increasingly digitalised world and its impact on various child development outcomes. Employing an umbrella review of 31 existing studies, the research provides valuable insights into the intricate relationships between digital parenting practices and child development.

The study made several key contributions to the field:

  1. Comprehensive Conceptualisation: It offers a robust framework for understanding digital parenting and its multifaceted nature.
  2. Protective and Promotive Functions: The findings highlight how digital parenting can safeguard and enhance children’s developmental outcomes.
  3. Call for Methodological Advancements: The study underscores the need for improved measurement approaches in digital parenting research.
  4. Research Gaps: It identifies areas where evidence is inconsistent or limited, paving the way for future investigations in this field.

This landmark review not only advances academic scholarship but also provides practical implications for educators, policymakers, and parents seeking to navigate the challenges of raising children in a digital age.
