Dr. Edward Park Awarded IAG Early Career Medal at the 11th International Conference on Geomorphology

During the 11th International Conference on Geomorphology (ICG), held from 2–6 February 2026 in Christchurch, New Zealand, Dr. Edward Park (National Institute of Education, Asian School of the Environment, Nanyang Technological University; Principal Investigator at the Earth Observatory of Singapore and Center for Climate Change and Environmental Health) was presented with the IAG Early Career Medal by the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG). The medal was conferred at the General Assembly following a unanimous decision of the IAG Executive Committee. The ICG is convened once every four years and represents the principal international gathering of the geomorphology community.
The IAG Early Career Medal recognizes sustained scientific contributions and service to the international geomorphological community. Dr. Park’s research on tropical river processes in the Anthropocene has advanced understanding of sediment dynamics, sand mining impacts, and delta vulnerability in Southeast Asia, integrating field observations, remote sensing, and modelling approaches. Reflecting on the award, Dr. Park noted that although the medal is designated for researchers under 40 at the time of nomination, he now sees it as “a reminder to support and create opportunities for the next generation of geomorphologists, and to continue contributing to our broader scientific community.”
