Ast/P Wang Jingyu Discusses Lightning Safety on Mediacorp Capital 958
Following recent lightning-related incidents in Singapore, including a fatal lightning strike at Pasir Ris Beach on 6 July and a fire caused by a suspected lightning strike near Lorong Halus Jetty on 24 June, Assistant Professor Wang Jingyu from the National Institute of Education, NTU Singapore, was featured on Mediacorp Capital 958's current affairs programme 新闻开麦啦 (News Open Mic).
During the programme, Ast/P Wang discussed why Singapore's tropical climate makes thunderstorms and lightning a frequent occurrence, particularly in coastal, open, and water-based environments. He highlighted the importance of understanding lightning risks, recognising early warning signs of approaching thunderstorms, and taking appropriate safety precautions during outdoor activities. The discussion aimed to raise public awareness and encourage greater vigilance to reduce the risk of lightning-related accidents.
