50th Anniversary of the Korean Educational Development Institute (KEDI)
The Korean Educational Development Institute (KEDI) celebrated their 50th Anniversary at an international conference held in Seoul on 25 August 2022. KEDI is among one of the most renowned research institute worldwide, they are often described as the cradle of education reform in Korea. The half-century milestone is concomitant with the growth of Korea’s education and economy.
Themed “Navigating new paths to education for a better future”, the international conference commenced with a message from the Vice-Minister of Education in Korea, Mr Sang-Yoon Jang. Then, the keynote session began with a presentation by Dr Bangran Ryu, President of KEDI, followed by Estonia’s Secretary-General of Education and Research, and Singapore’s Prof Tan Oon Seng, Centre Director from the Centre for Research in Child Development. Prof Tan spoke on Singapore’s educational transformation and shifts in policies, paradigms and practices to meet the challenges of the future.
International experts from the United States, Japan, Australia and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) also gathered to share their thoughts on several topics at the conference. These topics includes rebuilding future education, meeting the needs of youth, ensuring equity and driving education by research and policymaking.
