MOE - A*STAR Human Potential Learning Series

The Human Potential Learning Series, held on 12 October 2026, brought together researchers, educators and policymakers to explore how insights from the Science of Learning can inform the development of executive functioning and resilience across childhood and adolescence. In a presentation titled “Understanding and Developing Human Potential from Preschool to Adolescence,” research from NIE’s Science of Learning in Education Centre (SoLEC) was showcased through three complementary programmes: DREAMS (Project 7), a national longitudinal study examining adolescent developmental trajectories and resilience; PROSPER, which investigates how playful learning environments can support young children’s mathematical and executive functioning development; and RISE-M, a school-based intervention designed to strengthen adolescents’ regulatory competencies. Drawing on behavioural, developmental and neuroscience approaches, the presentation highlighted how learners with similar academic attainment can exhibit markedly different developmental profiles, and why understanding individual strengths, vulnerabilities and learning environments is essential for designing more responsive educational support.
The session generated interest from agencies like MSF, A*STAR and MOE and underscored SoLEC’s commitment to translating research into evidence-informed practices that help learners thrive across developmental stages.
