AI In Education Innovation Challenge 

The AI in Education Innovation Challenge is a flagship initiative jointly organised by NIE and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to empower future educators to explore, design, and implement innovative AI-enabled solutions for teaching and learning. Through workshops, mentorship, and hands-on project development, participants apply pedagogical knowledge and emerging technologies to address authentic educational challenges within Singapore's context.​

The Challenge provides student-teachers with opportunities to develop practical AI- powered innovations, collaborate with faculty and industry experts, and translate ideas into meaningful solutions that enhance educational experiences. By fostering creativity, critical thinking, and responsible AI use, the initiative supports NIE's commitment to preparing future-ready educators who can harness technology to create positive impact
in education.​

 

Inaugural AI in Education Innovation Challenge 2026

The inaugural AI in Education Innovation Challenge culminated in May 2026, bringing together 56 student-teachers across 18 teams to showcase AI-enabled educational solutions developed over several months of mentorship, workshops, and project development.​

The Challenge highlighted the ability of NIE student-teachers to move beyond the technology itself and focus on addressing real-world educational needs through innovative, pedagogically sound solutions. Participants presented their projects to a distinguished panel comprising representatives from AWS, the Ministry of Education, and Nanyang Technological University.​

Among the winning projects were innovations supporting non-verbal learners through AI- assisted communication, AI-powered diagnostic tutoring systems, intelligent feedback platforms for oral communication, and avatar-based role-play environments for language learning.​

The success of the inaugural Challenge reflects NIE's commitment to nurturing a new generation of educators who can use AI responsibly and meaningfully to improve teaching and learning. Building on this strong foundation, selected teams will continue refining their ideas through the Accelerator Stage, transforming promising concepts into impactful educational solutions.​

SG Math Thinking Coach is an AI tool designed for Primary 5 mathematics learning. It gives students a visible thinking map on screen so they can make their reasoning more explicit while solving problems.

AIE (AI-Enhanced Instruction)

This project presents AIE, an AI-supported differentiated instruction concept developed for classrooms with a wide range of learner needs. It focuses on helping teachers personalise instruction more efficiently.

Lenzs

This project introduces Lenzs, a sense-making tool for students’ personal development in secondary education, particularly within CCE. It brings together learning, reflection, and developmental evidence across different parts of school life.

iSpeak AI

This project presents iSpeak AI, a tablet-based communication app for non-verbal students with physical disabilities. It is designed to help them participate more fully in classroom interaction and school life.

LIT READER

This project presents LIT READER, an AI platform for close reading at the secondary level. It is designed to support Literature learning by helping students read more deeply and think more critically about texts.

Guided Evaluation and Mastery of Speech​ (GEMS)

GEMS is an AI-supported speech practice and coaching tool designed to help students improve oral presentation and speaking performance. It positions AI as a personal speech coach that can support rehearsal and iterative improvement beyond the classroom.

AI-Enabled Avatar-Based Role-Play Platform for Differentiated G3 Chinese Language Learning

This project proposes an interactive, avatar-based conversational AI tool for Chinese language learning at the G3 level. It is designed to make language practice more personalised and engaging.

ReVision: Exploring the Use of an AI-enabled Platform for Error Analysis & Revision Support

This project presents ReVision, an AI-enabled revision support platform that helps students learn more productively from mistakes. It is designed to make error analysis a more structured part of the learning process.

Aud.io: Bridging Emotion, Technology, Curriculum

This project presents Aud.io, an AI-powered educational application focused on students’ emotional awareness and regulation. It combines technology, reflection, and creative expression in a learning-oriented format.

This project presents an app-based system that automates lap tracking and timekeeping for PE running tests. It is intended to make fitness testing more efficient, accurate, and manageable for teachers.

This project introduces explAIn, an AI-powered lesson planning companion for beginning English teachers in Singapore. It is designed to help them plan, refine, and rehearse lessons more efficiently.

Big Brains, Big Gains

This project presents Big Brains, Big Gains, an AI-assisted homework support tool aimed at helping students tackle difficult questions independently. It is designed to provide accessible learning support beyond classroom hours.

AI-Assisted Feedback Ecosystem for Physical Education

This project develops an AI-assisted application for Physical Education that supports movement learning through individualised feedback. The prototype uses movement detection and feedback logic to help learners improve performance, while also supporting teachers with a more scalable way to manage observation and assessment.
