Innovation in Teaching and Learning (iTL) 2025: Seeding Innovations, Scaling Impact

The Innovations in Teaching and Learning (iTL) Seminar 2025, held on 24 October 2025, brought together over 100 NIE educators, researchers, and industry partners to explore how technology and collaboration can transform learning. Organised by IN-Learning (Centre for Innovation in Learning, NIE NTU) in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the seminar was held under the theme: “Seeding Innovations, Scaling Impact: Transforming Education for the Future.”

In her opening address, Associate Professor Chua Bee Leng, NIE’s Chief Learning and Innovations Officer, highlighted how AI is reshaping teaching and learning globally and in Singapore. This was followed by Assistant Professor Tanmay Sinha (NIE), who called for a human-centred approach to AI in education, and Mr Richard Goh (AWS), who shared insights on how education–industry partnerships can drive authentic, technology-enabled learning experiences.

A lively panel discussion on “AI in Education: Driving Innovation through Academia–Government–Industry Partnerships” featured Mr Chia Hai Siang (MOE), Associate Professor Tan Seng Chee (NIE), and Mr Richard Goh (AWS), moderated by Professor Chen Wenli (NIE). The panellists explored the opportunities and responsibilities of integrating AI into learning environments, emphasising ethical design and cross-sector collaboration.

Building on these discussions, participants took part in an Innovation Jam facilitated by NIE faculty. Through collaborative dialogue, they seeded ideas for learning solutions using AWS’s PartyRock platform, focusing on four key themes: Learner-Centred Learning Design, Data-Informed Teaching and Learning, Assessment and Feedback, and Learning Spaces.

The seminar concluded with Innovations Scaled @ NIE, showcasing faculty-led projects such as AppleTree and Knowledge Forum. These projects demonstrated how ideas first seeded are growing into impactful innovations in teaching and learning. In his closing remarks, Mr Kristopher O’Brien, Divisional Director of Academic Computing and Information Services, NIE, reaffirmed the value of partnerships in driving educational innovation.

Through a day of sharing, dialogue and ideation, iTL 2025 truly embodied its theme of seeding innovations and scaling impact, fostering ideas that will continue to grow and transform the future of education.

Innovation in Teaching and Learning (iTL) 2023

What happens when NIE educators step into Google HQ for a day of creativity, challenge, and connection? iTL 2023 gave us the answer. Co-hosted by NIE and Google, this Design-a-thon-style event was not your typical conference, it was a space for faculty to pause, reflect on real classroom struggles, and reimagine better ways of teaching through Design Thinking.

Participants got to explore our Human Library of NIE-grown innovations, collaborate with fellow educators, and pitch fresh solutions for teaching and learning, all in one energizing day. Walking away not just with new ideas, but with a renewed sense of purpose, possibility, and connection.

If you are ready, come see your teaching through a new lens and co-create the future of learning with passionate educators in our coming iTL.

FacTEL Roadshow

The Faculty Tech-Enabled Learning (FacTEL) professional development series made its debut in style at the FacTEL Roadshow on 10 March 2025, a vibrant event co-developed by the Centre for Innovation in Learning and the Office of Academic and Faculty Affairs.

Designed with our faculty in mind, the event offered hands-on experiences with cutting-edge modules like Designing AI Chatbots for Teaching, AI-EdTech for Assessment, and Learning Analytics for Student Insights. These were not just tech demos but powerful, practical tools you can immediately apply to elevate your teaching.

Faculty also got a chance to dive into interactive showcases like the NIE AI Sandbox, VR in Education, and the AI Assistant Creator, made possible through the support of ACIS and LIBRIS. The energy was contagious with ideas sparked, questions flew, and conversations lit up around how these innovations can make teaching smarter, easier, and more impactful.

Whether you are tech-curious or already experimenting with AI, FacTEL is your space to grow, connect, and future-proof your teaching one exciting step at a time. Join our FacTEL workshop series now.

Learning Oasis Challenge

The Learning Oasis Challenge is more than just a competition. It is your invitation to shape the future of learning at NIE. Open to students, staff, and alumni, this online challenge calls on your creativity to reimagine the formal and informal spaces where teaching, collaboration, and discovery happen.

For faculty, this is a chance to influence how learning environments can truly support the way you teach and how students learn. What would your ideal classroom look like? How could shared spaces spark better conversations, deeper reflection, or more spontaneous learning?

Join a vibrant community of changemakers and share your vision. Whether you're sketching out new spatial ideas, storytelling through design, or collaborating with others — this is your opportunity to turn bold ideas into real transformation at NIE.

Because the future of learning starts with the spaces we create and it starts with you. Give us a nudge if you wish to explore learning spaces in NIE.
