Signatures of the Anthropocene: Tracing Environmental Transformations

Professor Edward Park (NIE/NTU and Earth Observatory of Singapore) recently spoke at Signatures of the Anthropocene: Tracing Environmental Transformations, an interdisciplinary public programme at the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore (NTU CCA Singapore) that brought together science and art to engage broader audiences on environmental change. Drawing on his work on river systems and sand mining in the Mekong Delta, the session explored how geomorphological processes can be communicated beyond academic settings through visual and artistic narratives. The event attracted a diverse, largely non-specialist audience, highlighting the potential of art–science integration as an effective and accessible mode of science communication. “It was also a valuable learning experience for me,” Prof Park noted, “as I came to better appreciate how art can be an efficient and meaningful way of communicating science.”
