Brain Literacy Initiative Alliance Inaugural Launch Event: Uniting for Brain Research-Informed Education Worldwide!

The Brain Literacy Initiative Alliance (BLIA) is founded and led by Dr. Astrid Schmied, Education Research Scientist at the National Institute of Education, Singapore. It successfully hosted its inaugural launch event, Uniting for Brain Research-Informed Education Worldwide!, on 31 March 2026, proudly supported by the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO). The event further received coordination by SOLEC members Sandra Chua and Dr. Aishah Abdul Rahman, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for all participants.

This event brought together leading experts in neuroscience and education from five continents, showcasing the transformative potential of brain research-informed education.

Highlights from the Event

• Dr. Minkang Kim (University of Sydney, Australia) presented Educational Neuroscience as the Foundation for Brain Literacy in Australian Schools, highlighting collaboration between universities and schools to redefine evidence-based teaching. 
• Dr. Eric Chudler (University of Washington, USA) shared the Brain Health Learning Network, a program empowering older adults to understand and manage brain health. 
• Dr. Norberto Garcia-Cairasco (University of São Paulo, Brasil) showcased the Science, Arts, Education and Society Network (ScienArtES), promoting neuroscience awareness and empathy through community outreach. 
• Laura Henderson (Frontiers for Young Minds, Switzerland) highlighted innovative OER platforms engaging young learners in science through accessible, peer-reviewed content. 
• Dr. Chinna Orish (University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria) presented the Neuroeducation Program for Young Minds, inspiring young Africans to pursue neuroscience through mentorship, workshops, and outreach. 
• Dr. Astrid Schmied (National Institute of Education, Singapore) framed the event around CHARMing The Brain, integrating adult neuroeducation, cognitive health, and community learning. 
• One of the six awardees of the IBRO Neuroscience Seeding Grant presented their pioneering project, highlighting emerging global talent.

The inaugural BLIA event successfully demonstrated how neuroscience can inform and transform education at all levels. Participants left inspired by evidence-based practices, global collaboration, and innovative approaches to brain literacy — from young learners to adults.
