教子不好害一生

Commentary noted the need for parents and kindergarten teachers to boost their interactions with pre-schoolers, in response to the findings from the Singapore Kindergarten Impact Project (SKIP) conducted by NIE. The study was Singapore's first large-scale longitudinal study conducted to understand how the quality of kindergartens and family factors could affect the development and learning of young children in the long term.

The commentary highlighted the main findings of the study that the nature of parent-child activities performed by parents with their young children at home had a significant impact on young children's development and learning, while the quality of teacher-child interaction in kindergartens could be further improved through teacher training. Writer opined that these outcomes showed that parents' willingness to interact with their children could boost their child’s numeracy and literacy, while high quality of teacher-child interaction could effectively stimulate and promote the development of pre-schoolers' creative thinking and language skills.
