NIE representatives attend the 5th AsTEN Conference

Dr Khor Ean Teng, Education Research Scientist from the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP), was invited to speak at the 5th AsTEN Conference, a hybrid conference hosted by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Malaysia which was held from 3 to 6 December 2023. Dr Khor shared her work on “A Systematic Review on the Application of Multimodal Learning Analytics in Personalized Learning” and received the Best Paper Award for Virtual Presentation (Video). The paper provides teachers and other education stakeholders with an understanding of the common applications of multimodal learning analytics in the practice of personalised learning. The benefits of incorporating various data sources and contextual information into personalised learning to fully comprehend students' demands are also discussed.

Ms Nadiah Brown, Research Assistant from the Office of Academic & Faculty Affairs, was also invited to speak at the Conference. Ms Brown shared her work titled “Pre-service Teacher Identity, Competence and Efficacy Development in Teacher Education Programmes”, which was co-written alongside Professor Low Ee Ling, Dean of Office of Academic & Faculty Affairs, and Mr Jarrod Tam, Research Fellow from the Office of Academic & Faculty Affairs. The presentation engaged participants on the project's findings which characterised the impact of the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programmes on the professional development of pre-service teachers and programme graduates in the aspects of teacher identity, competence and efficacy. The findings showed that people, rigorous programmes and clinical practice impacted and enhanced their professional learning and development. She also received the Best Paper Award for Virtual Presentation (Video).
