MediaCorp Capital Radio 95.8FM Interviews Dr Wong Lung Hsiang

Dr Wong Lung Hsiang, Senior Research Scientist, OER, was interviewed by MediaCorp’s Capital Radio 95.8FM on 11 May 2020. The interview was based on a video produced by OER, where Dr Wong spoke about how parents can transform their homes into a learning playground for their children.

The tips that he provided in the video was based on his decade-long research in Seamless Learning. The research projects are namely, MyCLOUD - A Seamless Chinese Language Learning Environment Leveraging on Ubiquitous Technology and the Construction of Mental Lexicon and  Streamlining the Designs of Seamless Science Learning for Wider Diffusion. Dr Wong emphasised that parents can play a crucial part in enhancing their child’s learning journey, and one way is to help children build the connection between the knowledge they learn in school and their daily situational experiences.

During the interview, Dr Wong shared his views about home-based learning that took place during the circuit breaker period. In his opinion, the shuffling of the roles between students and teachers, as well as the adoption of technology, gave students greater autonomy in their learning. The online learning environment also provided students with the opportunity to co-construct the knowledge they learned in school.

The interview was well-received by the radio listeners, and parents also posted their home-based learning experiences on Capital Radio 95.8FM’s whatsapp group. After the interview, the radio station also received plenty of positive responses, where some of the listeners even approached the radio station to request for materials.
