Dr Yu Yue Presents on the Effect of Pedagogical Questioning on Young Children’s Learning

Dr Yu Yue, Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD), is conducting research in “Understanding the role of caregiver-child pedagogical questioning in Singaporean children's school readiness and achievement”. Based on research findings from this project, he presented a paper at the Society for Research in Child Development’s 2021 Virtual Biennial Meeting titled “The effect of pedagogical questioning on young children’s exploratory learning of novel concepts”. The paper, co-authored by Ms Jallene Chua, CRCD Research Assistant, details the effects of questioning on children’s learning of novel concepts and preliminary results from the project findings that suggest exposure to pedagogical questions may promote exploratory learning in children, as compared to direct instruction and free play.
