Dr Sun He Presents at Three International Conferences

Dr Sun He, Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Child Development, presented two posters and four papers at three virtual international conferences in July 2021.

The 13th International Symposium on Bilingualism was held from 10 to 14 July, and Dr Sun presented two papers at this conference, on “Exploring Bilingual Children’s Heritage Language Reading Process with Physiological Data” and “Maternal heritage language proficiency and child bilingual’s heritage language learning”.

On 16 July, Dr Sun presented two papers at the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading’s 28th Annual Meeting on “Eye tracker and Skin Conductance in Bilingual Children’s Heritage Language Reading Process” and “Promoting Social Emotional Learning through Shared Book Reading: Examining Teacher’s Strategies and Children’s Responses in Kindergarten Classrooms”. These papers were presented with Prof Adriana Bus and Ms Ng Siew Chin, respectively.

Dr Sun presented her first poster, titled “Motion and Sound in Animated Storybooks for Preschooler’s Visual Attention and Mandarin Language Learning: An Eye-Tracking Study with Bilingual Children” at the International Association for the Study of Child Language 2021 Conference (IASCL 2021) on 19 July. Her second poster, titled “Child, Family, and School Factors in Bilingual Preschoolers' Vocabulary Development in Heritage Languages”, was also presented at IASCL 2021, on 22 July.

The presentations were informed by findings from Dr Sun’s project “A Systematic Review of International ECE Projects”.
