Dr Kenneth Y T Lim Awarded Two Grants on Virtual Reality Research

Dr Kenneth Y T Lim, Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice, has been awarded a grant from the National Healthcare Group and the NTU Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, and Institute of Adult Learning (IAL), Singapore, for research on Virtual Reality (VR).

The first grant was awarded in collaboration with Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), and Dr Lim will collaborate with consultants from TTSH and the Woodlands Health Campus to develop VR simulation training for doctors in airway surgery and surgical procedures to help clear the airway of patients when obstruction is encountered. Dr Lim is Principal Investigator (PI) on this grant.

Dr Lim is co-PI on the second grant, titled “’Do you know how you present?’ Effectiveness of VR-augmented feedback for effective oral presentation”, Assoc Prof Gwendoline Quek, from NIE’s Learning Sciences and Assessment Academic Group, is the project PI, with Assoc Prof Tan Seng Chee, Assoc Dean at the Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning, as co-PI as well. They aim to develop adult learners’ presentation skills in a virtual training environment, and to investigate the effectiveness of the andragogical learning approach. Together, Assoc Prof Quek, Assoc Prof Tan, and Dr Lim were the only team from NIE to have been awarded a grant during the IAL 2020 Call for Proposals.
