Centre for Assessment and Evaluation (CAE): WERA Visiting Researcher Sharing by Prof Stefan Johannson

On 14 April 2025, we were delighted to have Associate Professor Stefan Johansson from University of Gothenburg for a research sharing session at the Net Gen Learners’ Terrace. Prof Johansson was here as the WERA 2024 Visiting Researcher, an award jointly organised by WERA, ERAS and CAE at NIE/ NTU.

Prof Johansson shared insights from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022 study, comparing motivational factors influencing student achievement in mathematics, reading and science between Sweden and Singapore. Additionally, he presented findings on the relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and student outcomes and how culture shapes these relationships. He was working in collaboration with Associate Professor Nie Youyan who is the academic mentor in this exchange programme.

The session provided valuable perspectives between the two countries and offered insights into how we can better support student learning.

A big thank you to all who attended!
