Translation 4 Impact Series – Collaborative Continuous Improvement in Education

On 4 February 2025, the Research-Practice-Policy Group hosted Professor Kristen Wilcox from the University of Albany, SUNY, and Research and Development Director at NYKids, where she led an evidence-driven workshop and shared on how she connects research with practice in K-12 education in New York. Prof Wilcox also demonstrated how Collaborative Continuous Improvement in Education (CCIE) offers a powerful approach to both advancing knowledge and creating meaningful change in schools. Participants took part in various hands-on activities where they had the opportunity to test out the tools such as COMPASS, find out about the various case studies (example: https://ny-kids.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Whitesboro.MS_.FINAL_.pdf), and reflect upon the processes which connects research to improvement work in schools.

Participants shared that the workshop was interactive and engaging coupled with great insights, provided useful tools, as well as allowed time for personal reflection. "The event provided a practical framework and tools to start school-based discussions on evidence-informed practices. The use of positive outliers is refreshing, and encourages us to explore what has worked, instead of what has not," shares Mr Darren Lai, Lead Research Specialist from Corporate Research Office, Ministry of Education.
