NIE Research Impact Roundtable
What is research impact? What are some barriers and pathways to achieving research impact? How can Singapore cultivate an ecosystem that supports this goal? These are the crucial questions we explored at the NIE Research Impact Roundtable on 7 February 2025, organised by Assoc Prof Loh Chin Ee and the Research-Practice-Policy Group (RPPG).
This closed-door session brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including educators, policymakers, and researchers. We welcomed specialists and educators from the Ministry of Education, as well as faculty and lecturers from local institutes of higher learning such as Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore Institute of Technology, Singapore Management University, National Institute of Education, and Nanyang Technological University.
Key Contributors:
Mr Darren Lai, Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE)
Professor Kristen Wilcox, University at Albany, SUNY
A/P Loh Chin Ee, National Institute of Education, Singapore
These experts shared insights on research impact from various perspectives—Corporate Research Office, MOE, New York, NIE, and Singapore. Participants engaged in lively discussions in breakout groups, focusing on how education researchers can enhance the real-world impact of their work.
The multi-stakeholder dialogue revealed valuable insights and sparked even more questions and possibilities. We believe this is just the beginning of an important conversation!
