Dr Wong Lung Hsiang engages State University of Malang in Seamless/Blended Learning Discourse through a keynote address and a guest lecture

Dr Wong Lung Hsiang, Senior Education Research Scientist and the co-Programme Director of the Learning Sciences and Innovation Research Programme at the Centre of Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP), recently made a visit to the Faculty of Education at the State University of Malang, Indonesia, where he has been serving as an Adjunct Professor since 15 October 2022. His visit, which took place on 6 and 7 October 2023, was marked by two key events:

-    Keynote Address at the 9th International Conference on Education and Technology: Dr Wong delivered a thought-provoking keynote titled "Blended Learning through Seamless Learning Experience: A Case Study of Singapore." During this keynote, he shared invaluable insights into the innovative concepts of blended learning and the Personal Digital Learning Programme (PDLP) implemented in Ministry of Education (MOE) secondary schools. Dr Wong elaborated on how these initiatives have been facilitated by the Student Learning Space (SLS) platform and the robust frameworks of Singapore Teachers' Practice (STP) and e-Pedagogy, all of which were in place prior to the global pandemic. Furthermore, Dr Wong highlighted how NIE’s research on seamless learning has informed the blended learning practice.

-    Guest Lecture on "Seamless Learning – Conceptual and Practical Niche": Dr Wong shared his extensive knowledge and expertise during a guest lecture at the Faculty. His lecture, titled "Seamless Learning – What is the Conceptual and Practical Niche?" provided a comprehensive overview of the evolution of seamless learning research conducted by the NIE researchers in Singapore schools since 2007. Singapore's pioneering role in seamlessly integrating this innovative learning approach into formal curricula was a key focus. Dr Wong also delved into the nuances of seamless learning, exploring its relationships with blended learning, lifelong learning, self-directed learning, and self-regulated learning across conceptual, theoretical, and practical dimensions.

The State University of Malang, formerly known as the Institute of Teacher Education and Educational Sciences of Malang, is the top university in Indonesia for teacher education and educational research. Notably, courses on seamless learning have been offered to their undergraduate and graduate students, with Dr Wong's publications serving as the overarching teaching materials. These courses have inspired numerous Ph.D. and Master's students to delve into seamless learning research, contributing to the ongoing advancement of this transformative educational approach. Dr Wong's visit further underscores the collaborative spirit between CRPP and the State University of Malang, as they continue to push the boundaries of educational innovation.
