Dr Sun He Furthers her Research in Early Childhood Education

Dr Sun He, Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Child Development, NIE, has published a paper and presented at a symposium on the topic of Early Childhood Education (ECE). Dr Sun was also appointed as Associate Editor of Journal of Child Language.

The article, published in Early Education and Development is titled “Promoting Social Emotional Learning through Shared Book Reading in Kindergarten Classrooms”. It proposes a comprehensive coding scheme to explore teachers’ strategies and children’s responses in shared book reading to promote children’s balanced development in the understanding of themselves and others. Dr Sun also presented at the Mother Tongue Languages Symposium, organised by the Ministry of Education (Singapore), on 28 August 2021. Her presentation, titled “Raising a Bilingual Reader: Top Practical Tips for Parents” shared research-based top tips to get parents started with reading to your child.

Both the journal article and the symposium presentation were informed by Dr Sun’s project “A Systematic Review of International ECE Projects”.
