Dr Sun Baoqi co-publishes a journal article in the Language Policy Journal

Dr Sun Baoqi, Education Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD), co-wrote a journal article titled “Bilingual Children’s Perceived Family Language Policy and its Contribution to Leisure Reading” in the Language Policy journal, alongside Assoc Prof Loh Chin Ee, Deputy Head (Research) at the English Language and Literature Academic Group (ELL AG), Assoc Prof Mohd Mukhlis Abu Bakar, Head of the Asian Languages & Cultures Academic Group (ALC AG), as well as Assoc Prof Viniti Vaish, Associate Professor at the English Language and Literature Academic Group (ELL AG).

This article explores how different family language policies (FLPs) components influence the leisure reading enjoyment and reading amount, as well as comparing FLPs from the perspectives of two groups of Singaporean bilingual children, English-Chinese and English-Malay. The findings emphasized the critical role of FLP in maintaining children’s ethnic languages and is imperative for parents, educators, and policymakers to identify and implement strategies to bolster language management and practices within the home and school environments.
