Dr Pan Qianqian, Education Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP), has co-authored a journal article titled “Unpacking the Digital Literacy–Self-Regulated Learning Nexus: A Systematic Review and A Three-level Meta-Analysis”, published in Educational Research Review.
The study systematically examines the relationship between digital literacy (DL) and self-regulated learning (SRL) through a rigorous review and meta-analysis of 31 quantitative studies, following the PRISMA guidelines. Findings reveal a moderate yet significant correlation between DL and SRL (r = .37) and highlight important moderation effects linked to conceptual and operational definitions of measures, participant characteristics, and geographical contexts.
The review also identifies a pressing gap in the literature—a lack of integrative theoretical frameworks guiding research in this area—and calls for more theoretically grounded, culturally inclusive studies to deepen understanding of the DL–SRL relationship in diverse educational settings.
