Dr Chen Mo Publishes Two Articles on Supporting Children with Special Educational Needs
Dr Chen Mo, Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Child Development, has published two articles on supporting children with special educational needs.
The first article, published in Augmentative and Alternative Communication, is titled “Effect of partner reauditorization on young adults’ attitudes toward a child who communicated using nonelectronic augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)”, and examines if attitudes towards a child who communicates using nonelectronic AAC were affected by partner reauditorization (the child’s communication partner repeating what the child says). Findings showed that attitudes towards the child were more positive with reauditorization, and that may also contribute to understanding the child’s message better.
The second article, titled “Teaching a child with autism to request help only when needed”, was published in Advances in Autism. This paper aims to offer a demonstration of applying general case instruction to teach a young child diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders to request help only when needed while concurrently increasing the child’s independence in task completion.
