CRCD Seminar 1

Conversations about translating research into practice in the Singapore early childhood sector

On 25 March 2024, the Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD) invited colleagues to participate in a conversation with CRCD researchers on translating research into practice in the early childhood sector in Singapore. The seminar sought to bring together colleagues in the various Academic Groups (AGs) and Research Centres (RCs) who are interested in understanding and being involved in the Singapore early childhood sector in the areas of research, teaching, and service. A total of 28 colleagues across 12 AGs and RCs joined us at this first seminar for 2024.

Dr Nirmala Karuppiah began the seminar with her presentation on a broad overview of the Singapore early childhood sector. With this background information, the seminar next featured a facilitated group discussion for participants to share their current experiences on translating ‘research into practice’ as well as to formulate new ways of engaging the Singapore early childhood sector in the areas of research, teaching, and service.

 CRCD Seminar 1

CRCD was glad to be joined by AG colleagues whose research interests and existing research work include areas such as values, social-emotional development, language and literacy, numeracy and math pedagogy, teacher well-being, teacher-child interactions, parent-child interactions, culture, arts, student engagement, assessment practices, and interventions. The fruitful discussion identified opportunities and challenges related to translating research into practice and yielded potential ideas for building connections and collaborations between researchers, educators, and stakeholders in the early childhood or education sector.

A second CRCD seminar involving stakeholders in the early childhood sector is slated for the second half of 2024.
