Associate Professor Victor Lim Fei co-publishes a journal article and speaks at two different events
Associate Professor Victor Lim Fei from NIE’s English Language and Literature Academic Department (ELL), co-wrote a journal article titled “Generative AI and Literacy Development in the Language Classroom: A Systematic Review of Literature” in the Ubiquitous Learning: An International Journal. The article explores the nascent research on generative AI (GenAI) and its impact on the language classroom, to offer the current start of the art as well as propose future research directions.
Assoc Prof Lim was also invited to speak at the following events:
- Invited keynote speaker at the first British Association for Applied Linguistics (BAAL) Curriculum Special Interest Group (SIG) Autumn Webinar 2024, organised by BAAL SIG on 8 November 2024. Assoc Prof Lim presented his work titled “Multimodality and the Language Curriculum”, where he explored multimodality in the language curriculum through two dimensions: multimodality for learning and multimodality as learning.
- Invited keynote speaker at a hybrid webinar titled “Generative AI in the Classroom – Possibilities and Perils: A View from Singapore”, co-hosted by IT for Change, Vakkom Moulavi Foundation Trust (VMFT), and the Comparative Education Society of Inda (CESI), conducted online and in Thiruvanathapuram, India on 9 November 2024. Assoc Prof Lim shared more about GenAI tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini, which offers new possibilities for teaching and learning, and how teachers can design meaningful learning experiences, harness their potential, as well as addressing the challenges they pose. He also presented Singapore’s response to these powerful technologies and key aspects of the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) EdTech Masterplan 2030. Watch a recording of the webinar here!
