Associate Professor Suzanne Choo Shen Li co-publishes a journal article and speaks at the Advancing ELT for a Prosperous ASEAN conference
Dr Suzanne Choo Shen Li, Associate Professor at the English Language and Literature Academic Group (ELL AG), co-wrote a journal article titled “From Moral Adaption to Ethical Criticism: Analyzing Developments in Singapore’s Character Education Programme” in the Journal of Moral Education, alongside Dr Deborah Chua Fengyi, Research Fellow at the Office of Education Research (OER). This article explores the historical emergence of ethical criticism, its dominant approaches such as relational, analytical and historical, and potential for character education. Findings show a discernible shift from moral adaptation to some evidence of ethical criticism where more emphasis is placed on the relational and less on analytical and historical aspects.
On 14 September 2023, Dr Suzanne was invited to give a keynote speech titled “Developing Ethical Literacy through English Language Teaching for a Global Age” at the Advancing ELT for a Prosperous ASEAN conference in Hanoi Vietnam. The conference was organized by the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences and aims to provide a platform for ELT practitioners, researchers, and policy makers to share their experiences and research findings related to the teaching and learning of English, including the challenges and opportunities facing ELT in ASEAN countries.
