Rehumanising Learning in an Era of AI and Education
AI is changing how people learn in profound ways. The growth in data and AI development is accelerating the rate of change in education, replacing some tasks and altering others. Benefits include the possibility of learning at scale, personalised insights into learning, and potential efficiency gains. Paradoxically, these ‘gains’ may be creating regressive education systems by engendering rote learning at scale, implementing pedagogies where students learn alone, and burdening teachers with extra work as they continually adopt new tools.
A systemic problem with the development of AI in education is that AI advancements tend to privilege theories and methods from data science and computational sciences, often taking a reductionist approach to learning science and organisational science.
In this presentation, I will focus on AI’s impact on education, arguing for the need for a more interdisciplinary approach to shaping our future education systems.
