Special Message: All the best

For the past seven years, Professor James Best has worked closely with various key stakeholders in LKCMedicine and beyond. A calm and measured leader, hear what others have to say about him!

Mr Lim Chuan Poh
LKCMedicine Governing Board Chairman

James assumed leadership at the critical stage of the School when we were still finding our footing and about to receive the second cohort of students. He has, in his very calm demeanour, steered LKCMedicine through many ups and downs...Under James’ leadership, the School has made a difference and the impact will be felt for a long time to come in the healthcare landscape.

Professor Subra Suresh
NTU President Distinguished University Professor

As Dean of LKCMedicine, you have played a pivotal role in shaping a medical school with new academic programmes, clinical training, and strong international collaborations into a vibrant intellectual entity. LKCMedicine has already established itself as a key pillar of Singapore’s medical ecosystem in a relatively short time of a decade. Much credit of these accomplishments goes to you and to the team you have built. It has been a great pleasure for me to get to know you and to work with you during the past several years.

President Professor Alice Gast
Imperial College London

Thank you, Prof Best, for all your work as the School’s first Resident Dean. Thank you for all your hard work and leadership. Everyone at Imperial wishes you well for the future.

Professor Philip Choo
LKCMedicine Governing Board member, Group Chief Executive Officer, National Healthcare Group

Thank you very much for all your help and assistance. One of the most important things that we found in you from very early on that allow us to work together is number one, you are a gentleman. Two, you are somebody whom we can work with, trustworthy and that is important for us. Thank you very much again James, for all these seven years of wonderful work.

Associate Professor Kenneth Mak
LKCMedicine Governing Board member, Director of Medical Services, Ministry of Health

“It has been a pleasure to work with you and you have given sterling leadership through the School, introducing many innovations and improvements. The School has been much stronger as a result of your contributions and your leadership. Thank you on behalf of the Ministry of Health, and all of us who have been working very closely to make LKCMedicine a success.”

Ms Jan Chua
LKCMedicine Governing Board member, Coordinating Divisional Director, Higher Education Group, Ministry of Education

James worked closely with multiple stakeholders to establish a unique and exciting medical school that was in some ways ahead of its time. Before interdisciplinary learning took on its current sheen, LKCMedicine from Day 1, sought to be a provider of innovative medical education that incorporates the humanities, data science and technology. The impact that LKCMedicine has made and will continue to make will be felt for generations of doctors and their patients.

Professor Lionel Lee
Former LKCMedicine Executive Vice-Dean of Strategic Affairs and International Relations

Congratulations on the successful combination of a truly illustrious medical and academic career. I shall always remember you as a true mandarin of measure, calm and collective man. A quiet voice but also a strong hand to stabilise and consolidate the achievements of a new medical school.
