Office of Patient Engagement (OPEN)
Patient Voices Matter
At LKCMedicine, we believe patients and their family caregivers are at the heart of healthcare and medical science. Through this partnership with patients to co-create patient-focused research and education, we can enable new and more effective cures and improve health outcomes and patient experience that matters to patients.
The Office of Patient Engagement (OPEN) is set up to bring patient and public voices into medical research and education in LKCMedicine.
We are an enabler, supporting researchers and educators in their endeavour to include patient-public perspectives into their work, connecting them to patients and the community for whom their works are targeted at.
OPEN has since welcomed a growing number of patients and their family partners, and caregivers, to OPEN Voices, a Patient Partner community. Through Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE), we want to foster active and meaningful interactions between patients with researchers and educators.
OPEN Voices was launched on 19 November 2024 at the Patient Voices Symposium 2024. Read more on the press release here.
This approach recognises patients' unique experiences, values, and expertise, ensuring that their voices are heard and integrated into research and medical education outcomes. OPEN also works closely with researchers and educators in the LKCMedicine community, to provide advice and consultancy on bringing PPIE into their projects.
Developing a National Guidance Document for Patient and Public Involvement in Health Research
To support the development of patient involvement in research, OPEN has partnered with Singapore Clinical Research Institute (SCRI) to bring multi-stakeholders together to develop a National Guidance Document for Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in health research in Singapore.
29 researchers, clinicians and patient partners from the medical schools, public healthcare clusters and research organisations came together to co-develop a Roadmap for this National Guidance Document on 17 November 2025.
This Roadmap represents a critical first step toward establishing a shared national resource for PPI in Singapore. The report which includes an overview of the discussions, the key insights we gained and the next steps for developing the Guidance Document can be found here.
