Going Overseas For Advanced Reporting (GO-FAR)

Going Overseas For Advanced Reporting (GO-FAR) is a hands-on course in advanced journalism reporting that immerses students in the challenges of operating in another country and culture. Students prepare for their fieldwork by attending seminars and conducting independent research into the chosen location, then brain-storming for and pitching story ideas to lecturers while organising logistics of the trip.

In 2023, the Go-Far team went to the African continent for the first time. The students reported on a variety of stories from Rwanda: from the rapid development of this East African nation to China’s in-roads in construction and medical aid there.

In 2022, the GO-FAR team reported on the issues of migrants and refugees in the German capital against the backdrop of the ongoing Ukraine war.
This was the first time since the coronavirus pandemic that the team headed overseas, after two years of reporting in Singapore.

In 2021, the GO-FAR team stayed in Singapore and reported on how players, coaches, schools, academies and parents of young talent were stepping up to meet the government’s Unleash the Roar project to raise the standard of football here.
