The Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at Nanyang Technological University is widely regarded as one of the top schools in communication and information globally. QS World University Rankings 2023 by Subject ranked the School at #6 globally for Communication and Media Studies. With a team of talented faculty and research staff, the School undertakes a range of interdisciplinary research that straddles across the fields of communication and information.
For the past five years, we have made significant strides in research in terms of competitive grants, high impact publications and citation counts. In 2022, the total value of externally funded projects in WKWSCI exceeds S$8M from various public grant agencies and private enterprises such as SSRTG, NMRC, A*Star, NRF, Academy of Korean Studies, Tides Foundation, Micron Technology Foundation Inc., Grab and Lazada. Many of our faculty members regularly publish in top-tier journals in the fields of communication and information.

Reflective of the significance and richness of the School’s research efforts, our current projects are funded by a variety of organisations. They include government agencies such as the National Medical Research Council, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, National Heritage Board, A*STAR, National Healthcare Group, National University of Singapore, Workplace Safety and Health Institute, Institute for Adult Learning, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Skoll Foundation, Singapore Heart Foundation, as well as commercial companies such as DSO National Laboratories, Agency for Integrated Care, WhatsApp and Grabtaxi Holdings.
The Centre for HEalthy and Sustainable citieS (CHESS) is an interdisciplinary research centre devoted to projects on health, risk and environmental issues from human-centred perspectives in the Asian context.
CHESS draws upon theories and concepts from communication and information science, bringing into play the interaction of technology – new, emerging and future – with human behaviours.
ACRC aspires to become globally recognized hub for the advancement of cutting-edge research, ideas, and engagement in the dynamic field of studying communication, media, technology, culture, and society in contemporary Asia. It brings together established and new voices in the field, incubating and showcasing innovative and incisive research and reflection on key issues of concern and opportunity.
Underpinned by an authoritative and original group of researchers, advisors, and affiliates, ACRC provides evidence, perspectives, advice, for the full range of industry, entrepreneurs, policymakers, civil society, and social institutions interested in communication and social progress, in Asia and in global contexts.
