SoLEC Seminar Series - Dr Jessica Tan
Dr Jessica Tan, Research Fellow at NIE, spoke on the phenomenon of audio-visual speech benefit, which is the benefit to language processing provided by simultaneous visual speech and auditory signals, over only visual speech and auditory signals. She explained that no such research has been conducted on infants and proceeded to share on her work on the first simultaneous EEG-eye-tracking that investigated cortical tracking of auditory-visual speech and gaze behaviour of 5-month-old infants, compared to 4-year-old children as well as adults. The session was hosted by Dr Aishah Abdul Rahman, Educational Research Scientist at Office of Education Research, NIE, who moderated an engaging Q&A session between Dr Jessica Tan and 17 attendees.
