NIE Researchers Publish Report on the Reading Habits of Bilingual Children in Singapore
Dr Sun Baoqi, Research Scientist at the Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD), Assoc Prof Loh Chin Ee, Deputy Head (Research) at NIE’s English Language & Literature Academic Group, and Dr Beth O’Brien, Head (Early and Middle Childhood Research), CRCD, have published a report on the reading habits of bilingual children in Singapore.
The report, titled “Report on the reading habits of bilingual children in Singapore 2021” is based a project studying “Leisure Reading in Two Languages: Reading Habits and Preferences of Bilingual Children in Singapore”, on which Dr Sun is Principal Investigator (PI) and Assoc Prof Loh and Dr O’Brien are co-PIs. It details a mixed methods study conducted to better understand Singaporean bilingual children’s reading habits and preferences in English and their respective Mother Tongue languages, to contribute to designing and evaluating reading programmed for bilingual children.
