Faculty members from the ELL academic group participated actively in this year’s ‘Singapore Writers Festival’ (Nov 7 to 16, 2025), contributing to meaningful conversations on memory, storytelling, and Singapore’s literary landscape.

Dr Anitha Devi Pillai was invited to speak on the panel “The Stories We Inherit: Memory and the Art of Re-telling,” alongside Claire Wong and Ingrid Rojas Contreras, where she shared insights on writing fiction shaped by community histories and family memories. She also moderated the “Between Myth and Memory: An Intergenerational Take on Writing about Singapore,” panel featuring Sarah Ang, Meira Chand, and Nuraliah Norasid, facilitating a rich intergenerational discussion on myth-making and place in fiction.

The festival additionally marked the 5th anniversary of PR&TA (Practice-Research & Tangential Approaches), celebrated through readings by authors and editors. Co-founded by Ann Ang, the journal continues to be a meaningful platform for creative-critical work in the region, with Dr Anitha Devi Pillai serving as its Fiction Editor.

We are also delighted that two Educational Research students of ELL, Shruthika Kumar and Nandini Sivakumar, presented a Tamil spoken word poetry performance, showcasing the vibrancy of multilingual creativity at NIE and contributing to the festival’s celebration of diverse voices.

The ELL academic group is proud to celebrate these engagements and congratulates all involved in the 2025 Singapore Writers Festival.
