Dr Adam John Privitera co-publishes a journal article and speaks at Chongqing University

Dr Adam John Privitera, Education Research Scientist at the Science of Learning in Education Centre (SoLEC), co-wrote a journal article titled “Time Course of Indirect Reply Processing in Native and Non-native Mandarin Speakers: An ERP Study” in the Bilingualism: Language and Cognition journal. The article explores differences in the time course of indirect reply processing in native and non-native Mandarin speakers. Findings have shown that non-native speakers exhibit delayed processing of indirect replies, potentially because of cognitive resource limitations.

On 12 December 2024, Dr Adam was also invited to speak at Chongqing University as part of their Global Frontier Series of Lectures (G-Seminar), where he shared his work titled “The Non-Linguistic Impact of Bilingualism: A Case for Foreign Language Study”. The seminar explores previously reported “bilingual effects” that are graded and can be modulated through variation across multiple dimensions of language experience, highlighting the significance of experiences like bilingualism in supporting cognitive health.
