Structural Geology and Tectonics

Course Description:
This course is designed to give students an understanding of the deformation of Earth materials, including mountain building and plate tectonics, faulting and earthquakes, folding, and ductile deformation. Students complete weekly labs using geological maps, seismic reflection data, remote sensing images, and analog experiments. Students learn to draw realistic cross-sections using quantitative techniques. The course includes a mandatory field trip to Taiwan during recess week. This course uses Kingdom Suite, ArcGIS, Gocad, and Canvas.
