Biogeochemistry

Course Code: ES3801

Course Description:
This is an advanced-level course in biogeochemistry for undergraduates in years 3–4 and for graduate students. Biogeochemistry examines how organisms influence the geochemical cycling of elements and molecules through ecosystems at both local and global scales; it is thus a fundamental aspect of the functioning of the Earth System. This course will examine both natural biogeochemical processes and how humans have impacted biogeochemical cycles. Students will learn fundamental concepts of biogeochemistry, and also read both classic and cutting-edge research papers in biogeochemistry. The course will cover both terrestrial and aquatic biogeochemistry.
