Cryptography and cybersecurity are central to securing digital information, transactions, and critical infrastructures in today’s interconnected world. As emerging technologies reshape business, government, and society, there is an increasing global demand for professionals who can design, evaluate, and deploy secure systems grounded in strong cryptographic principles.
The Master of Science in Cybersecurity (Applied Cryptography) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, is a coursework-based graduate programme offered by the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS). The programme features specialised training in applied cryptography, supported by rigorous mathematical foundations and practical exposure to modern cybersecurity applications.
Students will gain knowledge in classical and post-quantum cryptography, artificial intelligence security, blockchain and cryptocurrency, privacy-preserving technologies, and research and industrial practices. This comprehensive training prepares graduates for doctoral studies, research and development, and high-level professional roles in cybersecurity, digital trust, and secure technology sectors worldwide.
The MSc in Cybersecurity (Applied Cryptography) programme is an intensive one-year full-time or two-year part-time programme by coursework taught in three trimesters per academic year. The courses are delivered in intensive formats of a full 13 weeks. All courses are conducted at NTU main campus.
The programme consists of two study options for selection:- Coursework-only track: 30 AU coursework
- Coursework and Dissertation track: 24 AU coursework + Dissertation
| Option | Description | Core | Prescribed Electives | Unrestricted Electives |
| 1 | Coursework Only | 12 AU | 15 AU | 3 AU |
| 2 | Coursework and Dissertation | 12 AU | 12 AU | - |
The requirements for graduation are:
- Please note that ALL students will automatically be assigned the default Option 1 - Coursework Only. If you wish to apply for Option 2: Coursework and Dissertation, more information on the change of study option will be provided to you during Trimester 1 of the academic year. Change of option is only permitted once.
- Successful completion of the courses of a total of 30 AU as prescribed by MSc in Cybersecurity (Applied Cryptography); and
- Attaining a minimum CGPA of 2.50 at the completion of the programme of study.
Programme Features
The Master of Science in Cybersecurity (Applied Cryptography) provides rigorous and practice-oriented training in modern cybersecurity, with a distinctive specialisation in applied cryptography. The programme combines core cybersecurity foundations in computer security, application security, and network security with in-depth study of cryptography, secure protocols, cryptanalysis, and secure implementation.
Students will gain exposure to advanced and emerging areas including post-quantum cryptography, blockchain and cryptocurrencies, privacy-preserving technologies, cyber-physical systems security, hardware security, side-channel attacks, and security in artificial intelligence. The curriculum emphasises both theoretical understanding and practical applications, enabling students to evaluate, protect, and design secure digital systems across diverse real-world environments.Through a capstone project or industrial attachment, students will apply their knowledge to practical cybersecurity challenges under academic or industry supervision. Graduates will be well prepared for doctoral studies, research and development, and advanced professional roles in cybersecurity, applied cryptography, digital trust, fintech, government, and technology sectors.
