Education Exchange Public Seminar: Screen Time, Well-Being & the Developing Brain

07 Oct 2026 07.15 PM - 08.45 PM Industry/Academic Partners, Public

Education Exchange returns with a new season that turns the spotlight on one of the most pressing issues in contemporary life: screen time. As digital devices and online platforms become deeply embedded in how we learn, work and connect, questions about how we engage with screens meaningfully and responsibly are becoming increasingly important for individuals and families alike. Through a series of public talks, this edition of Education Exchange aims to explore how people of different ages can develop healthier, more purposeful relationships with technology, drawing on research insights and real-world experiences to support informed and balanced digital habits. This programme series is organised by the National Institute of Education (NIE) and National Library Board (NLB).

In this Seminar, we'll talk about Well-Being & the Developing Brain: Finding the Right Balance.

From scrolling to gaming to studying and streaming, screens are becoming a big part of everyday life. But how do screen habits affect children’s sleep, attention, physical activity and well-being?

Through research-informed insights and practical examples, this session explores the impact of excessive and sedentary screen use, the importance of healthy digital routines, and the role caregivers play in shaping children’s relationships with technology. Participants will also gain practical strategies for balancing screen time with movement, rest and meaningful offline experiences.
