In this public lecture, Professor Pianta presents valuable information for parents, educators, and policymakers on the fundamental importance of adult-child relationships in early education and child development. He will describe the foundational theories of education and child development that guide this perspective, present research on the measurement and impact of relationships between teachers and students in the early years and describe educational programs and policies that strengthen relationships and contribute to children’s learning and wellbeing. Professor Pianta’s lecture will draw on more than thirty years of working with educators to support their relationships with children and with policymakers to shift the focus of educational programs to a whole-child perspective on education.
