IOE/NIE Joint Seminar on Teachers as Active Curriculum-Makers

Join us on 7 October 2025, Tuesday, for a joint seminar on Teachers as Active Curriculum-Makers between University College London's Institute of Education and National Institute of Education! This seminar, featuring speakers from the National Institute of Education, Singapore, explores how teachers engage with curriculum as a dynamic resource for student learning and professional growth. The first presentation frames professional learning as curriculum work, showing how practices like lesson study and professional learning communities help teachers collaboratively unpack and recontextualize powerful knowledge. The second examines how award-winning English teachers treat curriculum materials as flexible pedagogical partners, adapting and enriching them to create meaningful classroom experiences. The third considers what “knowledge-richness” means in Science education, highlighting varied educator responses and the gap between policy emphasis and classroom practice. Together, these talks illustrate how powerful knowledge, curriculum materials and subject-specific approaches intersect to shape teaching and learning in Singapore.
