Professor Juan-Pablo Ortega elected Foreign Academic of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Spain

 

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences extends our warmest congratulations to Professor Juan-Pablo Ortega for being named a Foreign Member of the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of Spain. 


The Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of Spain, established in 1847, is a public institution dedicated to the research and study of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Geology, their applications, and promotions for the general public. It is made up of 72 full members and 144 Corresponding Academics, in addition to several Supernumerary Academics and Foreign Academics. 

Professor Ortega is one of the world’s leading experts in the modelling of dynamic processes and brain-inspired machine learning theory. He is a Professor of Applied Geometry and Dynamics at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences in Nanyang Technological University of Singapore (NTU Singapore). 

Professor Ortega’s research is highly interdisciplinary, and has yielded applications in financial econometrics, forecasting, physiological signal treatment, and engineering. He has also worked extensively in geometric mechanics, where his name is associated with important contributions to stability theory and symmetric systems.
His election as Foreign Member occurred at a plenary session of the Royal Academy during November 2021.
