At Best Foot Forward, an annual run/bike/walk and fundraising event for Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) has placed third among NTU schools in funds raised. With over S$11,000 donated, SPMS outperformed all other NTU schools except the Nanyang Business School and the National Institute of Education.

Best Foot Forward 2024 kicked off on 2 February with the X Campus Run, with participants from SPMS joining others in the OneNTU community in a 7 km run around NTU's Yunnan Campus. Among them was Assistant Professor Jeremie Houssineau, a newly-joined faculty member at SPMS's Division of Mathematical Sciences, who clinched the silver medal in the male open category.

Over the next two months, over 810 km was clocked in by Team OneSPMS, the SPMS community's sponsored team at BFF 2024. These efforts were led by 260 km of running by Assistant Professor Houssineau and 172 km of cycling by Mr Mohamed Fadly, a senior assistant manager in the SPMS Student Affairs office.

"This event wasn't just about physical activity, it was about coming together as a community to make a difference in the lives of others," said Mr Fadly.

The SPMS community rallied to sponsor Team OneSPMS, both in person and online. On 5-6 February, a SPMS x BFF Bazaar was held at the SPMS buillding, co-organised by the SPMS management team, the SPMS Club, and the SPMS Alumni Club. Featuring booths offering bracelet-making, candle-making, and other activities, proceeds from the bazaar went to Team OneSPMS. A lucky draw was also held for bazaar participants, with prizes generously donated by an SPMS alumnus.

By the close of BFF 2024, NTU as a whole had raised over S$180,000 from over 1,100 donors. Donations to Team OneSPMS will be used for a variety of worthy causes, including scholarships for deserving undergraduate students.

SPMS thanks everyone who donated during BFF 2024, as well as the students and alumni who offered their time and efforts to supporting the event. We hope to do even better at BFF 2025!
