News from Imperial: 15 Years Strong – Imperial Congratulates LKCMedicine
By Faculty and Staff of Imperial College London
With great honour and appreciation on behalf of Imperial College London, I join in celebrating this significant anniversary of LKCMedicine. Anniversaries offer us a moment to pause and reflect upon the journey we have travelled in partnership together – a journey marked by dedication, innovation and an unwavering commitment to excellence in medical education and research, values shared by our two schools. My appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial in January 2024 coincided with my first trip to Singapore and LKCMedicine where I was wonderfully hosted and was delighted to meet new colleagues and witness a new and inspiring community of learning. Over the 15 years, the School has grown not only in size but in spirit; our joint students, past and present, inspire us with their achievements, their compassion, and their determination to be the best doctors for Singapore. Let us celebrate this milestone, celebrate our partnership, and look ahead with renewed purpose to a future filled with growth, discovery, and impact. Happy Anniversary, LKCMedicine! Professor Deborah Ashby, OBE FMedSci FRS |
The collaboration between Imperial College London and NTU Singapore and the creation of LKCMedicine has been a brilliant success. I am fairly sure that it was Aristotle who first coined the famous phase "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts". LKCMedicine, over the last 15 years, has shown us that a unified whole can possess value way beyond the accumulation of various components provided by two Universities. Congratulations to LKCMedicine on its 15th birthday! Professor Martin Lupton |
I’m delighted to congratulate LKCMedicine on its 15th anniversary. What a wonderful journey it has been! As we look to the future my hopes are for ever stronger professional and research collaborations between LKCMedicine and the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. Together we can contribute academic expertise to help solve the problems the world faces. Professor Neena Modi |
It is a pleasure to reflect on past experiences working with LKCMedicine and the wider NTU community to create the new school as we approach its 15th anniversary. Medical schools are inherently more complex than others, involving interactions with clinical and non-clinical hospital staff, national and international regulatory bodies, research funders and organisations, and many others. Throughout the years of my involvement, the work has been universally rewarding. The initial focus was predominantly on undergraduate education, working through the complexities of teaching basic sciences, clinical knowledge and clinical skills. This was so successful that the graduates now rank amongst the best in the world. As the School evolved, the focus on postgraduate education expanded, with the creation of a number of highly successful taught and research-based postgraduate programmes. Competitive collaborative research initiatives developed with Imperial, others in Singapore and elsewhere, such that LKCMedicine moved up the international rankings at an unbelievable pace, unequalled in any new medical school elsewhere in the world. On a personal level, I feel privileged to have been part of all this and have ongoing friendships which will be lifelong with some of those with whom I worked at LKCMedicine. Everyone involved should be proud and I send my best wishes for continued success. Professor Des Johnston |
It has been a privilege to contribute to the partnership between Imperial College School of Medicine and LKCMedicine, which continues to exemplify innovation in medical education and assessment. Collaborating with colleagues at LKCMedicine on our joint publication exploring novel assessment tools within the team-based learning model embedded in the LKCMedicine curriculum remains a personal highlight, reflecting our shared commitment to evidence-informed educational practice and excellence. I have also greatly enjoyed welcoming LKCMedicine students to London and witnessing their enthusiasm and professionalism in action. Warm congratulations to LKCMedicine on this 15th anniversary milestone! Professor Amir Sam |
I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to our colleagues and friends at LKCMedicine as we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the School’s opening. From the very beginning, you embraced bold ideas and were dedicated to creating an environment in which students could thrive and flourish. Watching students grow into exceptional doctors has been an absolute joy. Here’s to continued success and many more years of impact and inspiration! Dr Emma Keeling |
Congratulations to LKCMedicine on your 15th anniversary – a wonderful achievement! It has been, and continues to be, an honour to work closely alongside you as a very highly valued partner institution; over the past six years I’ve had the privilege of engaging with colleagues, friends and students in both Singapore and in London and seen firsthand how you have evolved into the exceptional training centre for doctors that you stand for today. Your passion, professionalism and unwavering dedication is inspiring, and the result is a host of confident, compassionate doctors ready to work in service to your country. I very much value the spirit of our partnership and look forward to seeing LKCMedicine continue to enjoy many more years of success. Ms Penny Kharroubi |
It has been a great pleasure to coordinate the LKCMedicine student activities at Imperial since I joined the University in 2017. Welcoming students to our campuses has been a highlight, from exploring the historic Queen’s Tower to visiting our dissection rooms and arranging unique learning opportunities, each experience offers a glimpse into life as at Imperial. We’ve enjoyed sharing the vibrant student culture at the Imperial College School of Medicine, facilitating meaningful connections with our own students, and fostering lasting friendships. Hosting LKCMedicine students for their elective placements at our partner hospitals has also been incredibly rewarding. These placements not only support their journey to becoming doctors but also offer valuable insights into the UK healthcare system. It has been inspiring to witness their enthusiasm, curiosity, and professionalism. Congratulations on your anniversary! Ms Roxy Hughes |
