Students’ Take: The Next 15 Years: Aspirations of the Class of 2030

The Class of 2030 – the newest and largest cohort to join LKCMedicine – carries with them not only dreams of becoming compassionate and capable physicians but also aspirations shaped by a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. Much like the generations of LKCMedicine graduates before them, they are determined to make a difference. But as the largest class yet, their collective energy and diverse perspectives offer an even greater promise for the years ahead.
These M1 students enter medical school at a time where artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and interdisciplinary approaches are redefining both how medicine is taught and how healthcare is delivered. Standing at this milestone, the Class of 2030 represents more than just the future of medicine. They reflect the confidence, optimism, and sense of purpose that will carry LKCMedicine into its next era – an era defined by possibility, progress, and the enduring mission to shape tomorrow’s doctors.

As we enter the next lap and say farewell to the last 15 years, what special message does our latest cohort of undergraduates have? What do they hope to achieve for themselves, their loved ones and for the LKCMedicine family?
Lim Yann Ting
Lim Yann Ting (front row, first from left) believes that practising medicine is about presence as much as it is about treatment.
Starting my medical school journey with LKCMedicine feels like stepping into a space that is both humbling and exciting. It is more than just learning the science of medicine, but shaping the kind of person and doctor I want to see myself become in the future. It presents the chance to fulfil my aspirations of growing into someone who can offer both knowledge and compassion, and treat patients not only with skill, but with empathy and respect.
What inspires me most about this path is being able to make a difference in people’s lives — in ways both big and small. Practising medicine is about presence as much as it is about treatment —about being there for others in their most vulnerable moments, and helping them feel heard, understood, and cared for. That human connection is what I want to carry with me throughout this journey.
Lin Zhaoting Sophie
Sophie Lin (seated, wearing glasses) hopes to become a doctor whom patients feel comfortable confiding in about their medical concerns.
Learning about a patient’s journey, supporting them through recovery, and contributing to their care is deeply meaningful to me. I aspire to be someone patients can feel comfortable confiding in as they share their concerns and struggles. I look forward to beginning this journey at LKCMedicine!
Aufal Aufiya

After spending a month as a student at LKCMedicine, I am heartened to have met so many genuine, driven, like-minded yet diverse individuals whom I can call my future colleagues. The community here has bolstered my resolve to be an empathetic doctor – one who actively listens to his patients as he accompanies them in their journey of treatment and recovery.
Shivagiri Nathan Jayan
Shivagiri Nathan Jayan’s (back row, first from left) motivation for studying medicine comes from uniting curiosity, service, and compassion to improve lives and healthcare in Singapore
What keeps me moving forward is the reason I began it. Medicine is where my curiosity for science, commitment to service and belief in human touch intersect. Whether it is about restoring a patient’s quality of life or guiding a community towards better health, I want to be at the forefront of that change. I know when challenges arise, returning to this purpose will remind me why I started this journey in the first place.
I want to be a doctor who can empathise with patients, deliver personalised care tailored to their needs, and contribute to improving the healthcare landscape within Singapore. I am excited to begin my LKCMedicine journey, where I can learn, grow, and make it uniquely mine.
Anupama Shankar

Working with disadvantaged kids over the last few years, I discovered a passion for helping others and gaining their trust through my volunteering experiences. In the future, I hope to be a doctor that makes time to listen to her patients’ concerns and not only treat their conditions but do so with empathy and care. I wish to be someone my patients and colleagues can rely on no matter the situation.
