LKCMedicine has received a major S$15 million donation from the Sim Foundation to expand its use of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical education and research. This is one of the largest gifts the School has ever received and will help improve healthcare for patients in Singapore and beyond.
To honour this donation, NTU Singapore has named the LKCMedicine medical library at the Novena Campus the “Sim Hoay Cheok – Sim Foundation Library.” The naming ceremony was attended by Mr Sim Hoay Cheok, his family, and leaders from university.

Professor Joseph Sung, Dean of LKCMedicine, said the gift will help the School prepare future doctors and improve patient care using new technologies.
He said, “Sim Foundation’s gift reinforces LKCMedicine’s commitment to redefining medicine and transforming healthcare for our future generations. The generosity of individuals like Mr Sim Hoay Cheok encourages us to go beyond the tried-and-tested and break new possibilities in preparing our medical students for the ever-changing healthcare landscape and improving patient care outcomes. We are empowered to make greater strides in fostering a culture of innovation among our students and researchers as we look to address global health challenges of the 21st century.”

The donation will support research in two main areas – using AI in medicine and developing technology to improve patient care in hospitals and at home. These efforts will especially help elderly and underprivileged patients, making healthcare more accessible and reducing the burden on hospitals.
Beyond research, the gift will also enrich the global and intercultural dimensions of medical education at LKCMedicine. It will support a range of overseas opportunities for students, including six-week electives, scholarly projects, community involvement initiatives, and participation in international research competitions.

The Sim Foundation has supported LKCMedicine since 2013, helping over 30 students with the Sim Yung Chong Medical Scholarship. With this latest gift, LKCMedicine aims to drive more innovation and tackle global health challenges.
