LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION, 30 JANUARY 2023

Picture4

Chinese New Year couplets are an important custom when it comes to celebrating the Lunar New Year. Couplets are banners that are posted on either side of the door or on the wall with auspicious messages - usually in gold signifying wealth.

This year of the rabbit, #NTUEEE MSc student Zhang Yuyang and PhD student Aaron Weng Xu decided to develop an Augmented Reality app based on image recognition. They sought the advice of Assoc Prof Ling Keck Voon, an avid fan of couplets, to come up with one that users can see when they use the app. He suggested:

ๅ…”ๅˆฐ็‹ฎๅŸŽๆทปๆดปๅŠ›
ๆ˜ฅไธดๅญฆ้™ขๅฏๅพ็จ‹

Translated literally, it means:
"Rabbit arrives, adds vitality to the Lion City (i.e. Singapore);
Spring comes, a fresh start in NTU and EEE."
#NTUEEE first-year student Zeng Zihao also contributed a calligraphy which is displayed in Blk S2 EEE Lobby.

CONTINUING THE LEARNING JOURNEY TOGETHER, 9 DECEMBER 2022

Picture5

Earlier this year, when friends Yang Yijin, Liang Xuheng and Shuai Chenhao were exploring different graduate programmes in engineering to pursue, they knew #NTUEEE ranks right up there with the best.

It was no surprise that when they completed their undergraduate journey at Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications in June, all three unanimously decided to head to Singapore and #NTUEEE. Shuai and Yang are MSc students in Signal Processing while Liang is completing his MSc in Power Engineering. They all admitted their first semester had been such a whirlwind but loved every rigorous and challenging minute of it.

"The end of my first semester at NTU EEE has left me most satisfied with excellent class experience. Thanks to the wealth of knowledge of the professors, I have gained a deeper understanding of engineering," Yang said.

The trio already has plans for the future: Shuai and Liang are thinking of applying to do their Ph.D degrees here at #NTUEEE, while Yang is hopeful that he lands a job here in Singapore. We wish them all the very best for the future!
